The Award-Winning Leather

At Hammer & Claw, the leather we use is naturally glazed, giving it a lustrous shine right out of the box.

This is achieved by rubbing a glass roller on the leather surface, which produces heat and gives the leather its beautiful shine. We don't use any chemicals in this natural glazing process, which means that the shine on our leather doesn't reduce with age but instead increases as it's polished by the touch of your hands over time.

We use skins from younger animals, typically yearlings, as they are finer, have fewer marks, and are slightly softer. This allows us to make small leather goods to our exacting standards, while still ensuring that they're strong enough to feel like traditional buffalo hide. Our leather is full-grain, which means that it shows the natural skin pores and grain that were present in the leather. By not sanding the leather, we can avoid the need to cover it with artificial coatings that deteriorate over time. Instead, the natural fibers of our leather develop a beautiful patina that only gets better with age.

If you own one of our leather products, it's important to take good care of it. Although buffalo hide is very tough, it's still a luxury product that requires a little TLC. The natural oils and waxes used to coat the leather will protect it, but it's still important to clean it gently with a soft cloth and to apply a small amount of Leather Balm to remove impurities and nourish the leather. You can also apply a little wax or leather balm to polish it once in a while to help protect the leather and ensure that it lasts for many years to come.

Overall, it's important to avoid keeping your leather accessories in very wet or humid conditions. By taking good care of your leather products, you'll be able to enjoy them for years to come and watch as they develop an even more beautiful patina over time.
